What can we do to protect bees?
Ximo Martínez PrimoBees have always been there, silently doing their job. Without them, many plants couldn't reproduce, and much of the food we consume would disappear. At Miel Mayem, we've been working for generations with artisanal honeys that come directly from the efforts of bees, and we know how important they are. That's why today I want to talk to you about how you can help protect them, even from home.
Why are bees important?
Bees play a key role in nature: pollination. By moving from flower to flower, they allow plants to reproduce. This not only affects crops such as fruit trees, vegetables, and nuts, but also natural ecosystems. A large part of biodiversity depends on them.
Furthermore, thanks to their work, we enjoy products like pollen , royal jelly , propolis , and honey . But beyond what they produce, their true value lies in maintaining the balance of the environment.
The problem is that there are fewer and fewer bees. This is because bees are exposed to several factors that hinder their survival, such as the use of pesticides, habitat loss, climate change, and the lack of flowers at certain times of the year.
Simple actions to protect bees
Although there are certain factors we can't control, today I'm telling you how you can do your part to help bees.
Avoid pesticides or chemicals
Many insecticides and herbicides directly affect bees' nervous systems. If you have plants, try using natural solutions or simply letting them grow freely.
Commit to responsible beekeeping
When you buy natural or raw honey, you're supporting a business model that respects both the product and the bees. At Miel Mayem, we carefully select each variety, from the source.
Talk to your friends about the importance of bees
You don't have to be a beekeeper to protect bees. Sometimes, simply sharing what you know goes a long way. The more this information is shared, the more awareness we'll raise.
At Miel Mayem, we know: without bees, there's no honey. But there wouldn't be many other things either. That's why it's so important to choose the honey we buy carefully.
